Serie A giants Juventus reportedly lead the race to sign veteran Argentine international Angel Di Maria, a target for Barcelona, in a Bosman move.
According to a report by Italian publication Tuttosport, Angel Di Maria is likelier to join Juventus ahead of Barcelona in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window, as things stand. The veteran Argentine international will officially become a free agent in less than two weeks when his contract with Paris Saint-Germain runs out.
Angel Di Maria is one of the most underrated forwards of his generation, despite being a pivotal figure for some of the most high-profile clubs in Europe in the past decade and a half. The 34-year-old has played an instrumental role in Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain’s success during his time at both clubs.
As for the veteran Argentine international’s stint with PSG, he raked in 93 goals and 119 assists in 295 appearances in the last seven years. But Di Maria’s spell at Parc des Princes has ended, and he will become a free agent when the summer transfer window opens in less than two weeks. But despite being in the twilight of his storied career, he has no shortage of suitors, with Barcelona and Juventus keen on signing him.
The interest from Barcelona has cropped up due to the rising uncertainties surrounding the future of Ousmane Dembele. The Frenchman seemed ready to commit his long-term future to the Blaugrana, but talks between the two parties seem to have reached a point of no return.
Recent reports have claimed that Dembele will likely leave Barcelona as a free agent this summer. While Raphinha is the priority target to replace the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner, the increasing competition for the Brazilian has forced Barcelona to consider Di Maria as a viable alternative. But the Catalan giants face stiff competition from Juventus in the race to sign the 34-year-old forward.
Juventus recently submitted an offer to sign Di Maria, and the Serie A giants have become the front-runners to secure the veteran Argentine international’s signature. And Di Maria could be a solid addition to the first-team squad at the Allianz Stadium following Federico Bernardeschi’s departure as a free agent.
