Serie A club Fiorentina and La Liga champions Real Madrid are reportedly discussing a summer move for out-of-favour Serbian forward Luka Jovic.

According to reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Fiorentina and Real Madrid are holding direct talks over a possible loan deal for Luka Jovic in the summer transfer window. The Serie A giants want Real Madrid to pay part of the out-of-favour Serbian forward’s wages, with the player open to moving to Italy.

Luka Jovic joined Real Madrid from Eintracht Frankfurt nearly three years ago amid a lot of hype and excitement surrounding him following a brilliant 2018/19 campaign with the Bundesliga club. But the 24-year-old has failed to live up to the billing and has played second fiddle to Karim Benzema in the last three seasons.

Jovic has more yellow cards than goals for Real Madrid, which tells all about his struggles in Spain. The Serbian international has managed a paltry tally of three goals and five assists in 51 outings for Real Madrid. And the player will likely depart from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window, with a loan move to Fiorentina emerging as a possibility.

The Serie A giants boast of two top-class strikers in Arthur Cabral and Krzysztof Piatek, with the duo replacing Dusan Vlahovic in Florence in the January transfer window. But while Cabral completed a permanent move from FC Basel this past winter, Piatek’s future remains unresolved.

The Polish international could join Fiorentina permanently in the summer transfer window. But Piatek has recently emerged as a target for Torino, meaning Fiorentina will have to scour the market for an alternative in case the 26-year-old does not complete a permanent move to the Artemio Franchi Stadium.

Jovic has thus emerged as a viable target for the Serie A giants, who are discussing a possible loan deal for the Serb with Real Madrid. The out-of-favour forward is open to joining Fiorentina, but wages could be the sticking point for Real Madrid and La Viola.

Fiorentina will hope to see Real Madrid pay part of Jovic’s wages in the 2022/23 window. And it is unclear if the Merengues are ready to accept such a proposition. Nonetheless, a loan move to Serie A is a possibility for Jovic, with AC Milan also previously showing an interest in him.
