La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly weighing up re-signing Rafinha Alcantara from Paris Saint-Germain this summer.
According to ESPN Deportes, Rafinha Alcantara is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian midfielder will likely leave Paris Saint-Germain ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Rafinha Alcantara progressed through the ranks at FC Barcelona after joining the fabled La Masia academy in 2006 as a 13-year-old. And in just five years, the Brazilian international had made his first-team debut for Barcelona. But the player had to wait until the 2014/15 season to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Camp Nou following his return from a loan spell with Celta Vigo.
However, Rafinha’s stock did not rise much, with injuries hampering his progress considerably, reducing him to the role of a backup option. While the 29-year-old was an asset due to his versatility, he failed to win over his managers over the years, and loan stints with Inter Milan and Celta Vigo did not help his case either.
Rafinha’s spell with Barcelona ended in October 2020 when he completed a surprising move to PSG. But Rafinha’s fortunes barely improved at PSG, and he joined Real Sociedad for the second half of the 2021/22 season in January.
The Brazilian midfielder, who can double up as a full-back, enjoyed his stint with La Real, scoring one goal in 21 outings with the Basque club. And following his return to PSG this summer, Rafinha will likely depart from Parc des Princes, with Real Sociedad vying for his signature. But Barcelona could also offer him a way back to Camp Nou.
The Catalan giants are in contention to sign a player who played for PSG until this summer, with Angel Di Maria on their radar. But the interest in Rafinha is surprising, considering Barcelona’s midfield department is choc-a-bloc with players who solve every purpose for the Blaugrana.

And even though Frenkie de Jong faces an uncertain future, several viable candidates feature on Barcelona’s wishlist. So it is hard to see why Barcelona might be interested in re-signing Rafinha from PSG, considering he will offer little value at Camp Nou.
