Gareth Bale offered two-year contract by Cardiff City

Cardiff City have reportedly offered Gareth Bale a two-year contract following his exit from Real Madrid.

Gareth Bale had emerged as one of the most successful players in British football during his time at Real Madrid, as he notably secured five Champions League titles. But there is a possibility the forward could be headed for the EFL Championship, as per a report from Foot Mercato.

The French news outlet suggests Cardiff City have strongly expressed the desire to sign Bale in the summer transfer window. Following the end of Bale’s spell at Real Madrid, the Championship outfit want to bring the attacker back to Wales and have offered him a two-year contract, with an option to extend it for a further year.

A native of Cardiff, Bale never actually played for his hometown club professionally. He had started his career at Southampton before going on to achieve great things at Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid. During his time at the Santiago Bernabeu, he won five UEFA Champions League and three La Liga titles.

The Welshman’s tally of 106 goals and 67 assists for Real Madrid simply speaks for itself, even though the final few years of his spell at the Bernabeu were far from ideal. Bale had come under constant dispute with the club and had been a subject of harsh criticism from his own sets of supporters.

But Gareth Bale is looking to put his time at Real Madrid behind and start a new chapter elsewhere. He was recently offered to AS Roma, with Jose Mourinho rating him highly. The Portuguese tactician had even roped in Bale back to Tottenham in 2020, though the move did not pan out well for either party.

A move to Cardiff City is certainly an interesting prospect for Bale. The report suggests the Welshman is not completely averse to a return to his homeland even if it means he will have to ply his trade in the second division of English football. The footballer shares a close bond with his nation and has played a key role in helping Wales qualify for back-to-back Euros and most recently, the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With the coveted tournament fast approaching, Bale will look to move to a club where he can play regularly. Cardiff City, to that end, could prove to be a tempting destination, although it won’t be surprising to see the former Spurs starlet try his luck in one of Europe’s top five leagues or even move to the States.
