Dani Alves offered to RCD Mallorca

RCD Mallorca could reportedly look to sign Dani Alves in a Bosman move in the summer once the veteran Brazilian defender leaves Barcelona.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dani Alves could remain in La Liga after leaving Barcelona as a free agent in the summer transfer window. The veteran Brazilian defender has been offered to RCD Mallorca over a possible Bosman move ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Very few players in the game’s history can match the legacy of Dani Alves’s storied career. The most successful player at the club level, the 39-year-old has won a staggering 42 trophies thus far, with his most successful period as a professional footballer coming during his first stint with Barcelona.

Since leaving Barcelona several years ago, Alves enjoyed success at other clubs before returning to Camp Nou this past winter on a free transfer. The veteran Brazilian defender was a dependable performer for Barcelona despite being in the twilight of his career, chipping in with one goal and three assists in 16 appearances.

But as the 2021/22 season drew to a close, Alves’s Barcelona future became increasingly uncertain. The Blaugrana initially had no qualms about handing the 39-year-old a new contract, but they subsequently reconsidered their stance amid their eagerness to sign a new right-back.

Alves would have been happy to sign a short-term contract extension as he wants to remain in tip-top shape heading into the 2022 FIFA World Cup. But Alves’s hopes of staying at FC Barcelona have ended after he confirmed his departure from Camp Nou for a second time this week in an emotional letter.

Alves has no shortage of suitors, even though he will turn 40 before the 2022/23 season ends. And the veteran Brazilian defender could remain in La Liga after leaving Barcelona, with RCD Mallorca keen on securing his services in a Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

Mallorca remained in La Liga after a battling season and will play in the top flight for a second season since returning from the Segunda Division last year. Alves’s experience could be crucial to avoiding the infamous “second season syndrome”. And with the 39-year-old only seeking a short-term contract, a move to Mallorca could be on the cards.
