Manchester City have repotedly entered the fray to sign TSG Hoffenheim’s in-demand full-back David Raum this summer.
According to a report from 90 min, Manchester City have expressed interest in David Raum. They have recently launched an enquiry over the availability of the 24-year-old TSG Hoffenheim full-back, who has become a sought-after prospect in the market following his performances for club and country.
A left-back by trade, Raum made his big breakthrough at Greuther Furth during the 2020/21 campaign. Registering 15 assists in 2.Bundesliga, the full-back played a key role in Furth’s seemingly impossible promotion campaign, with his blazing performances in the second division earning him a move to Hoffenheim last summer.
Raum did not disappoint in the German top-flight either. In his first season in the Bundesliga, the 24-year-old left-back racked up 13 assists and three goals in 32 league appearances. He has showcased excellent form for Germany as well, most recently starring in UEFA Nations League matches.
Raum’s ability to whip in dangerous crosses from wide areas, coupled with his technical prowess have made him quite an asset for Germany, with many expecting him to become the nation’s first-choice left-back in the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup.
The 24-year-old’s performances have not gone unnoticed at the club level either, with Manchester City among the outfits interested in his services.
With Oleksandr Zinchenko being subjected to a move to Barcelona and Arsenal lately, Manchester City are in the market for a new left-back. They want to add more competition for Joao Cancelo, who is currently the only recognised option in the position.
To that end, David Raum could be an exciting investment for Manchester City. Blessed with technical abilities and crossing prowess, the German international could fit in quite well in Pep Guardiola’s positional system, especially if he can improve his defensive capabilities.
Signing Raum from Hoffenheim, though, might not be a walk in the park, as far as Manchester City are concerned. In addition to the Premier League champions, the German international has become a target for Borussia Dortmund.
With Raphael Guerreiro facing an uncertain future at the club and Nico Schulz falling out of favour, the Bundesliga giants want to add some quality in the left-back position by adding Raum to their ranks.
The 24-year-old already has a strong relationship with some of the Dortmund players in the German national team including Niklas Sule and Nico Schlotterbeck, among many others. And should BVB turn on the gears, it will be difficult for Manchester City to lure the German to the Etihad, as they are not in a position to offer regular game-time ahead of the World Cup.
