Tottenham and Juventus have been unsuccessful in their respective enquiries for Destiny Udogie, with Udinese uninterested in selling the 19-year-old.
According to Italian publication Tuttosport, as relayed by Juventus Magazine, Tottenham Hotspur might have to consider an alternative to Destiny Udogie in the summer transfer window. Udinese will unlikely listen to offers for the 19-year-old defender, also a target for Juventus.
Destiny Udogie is a product of the Hellas Verona youth setup and made his first-team debut for the Serie A club as a 17-year-old in November 2020. But the Italian defender had to wait until he joined Udinese on a season-long loan deal to enjoy his breakthrough in professional football.
The 19-year-old was the first-choice left-back for the Friulani and chipped in with five goals and three assists in 35 Serie A outings. Udogie has moved to Udinese permanently due to a clause in the loan deal. But several clubs in Europe, including Tottenham Hotspur, are attempting to prise him away from the Dacia Arena after setting their sights on him due to his exploits.
The interest from Tottenham is intriguing, considering they have already secured the services of Ivan Perisic in a Bosman move. The veteran Croatian international excelled as a left wing-back in the last couple of seasons, two of the most productive campaigns in his professional career thus far.
While Tottenham will likely look to cash in on Sergio Reguilon, Antonio Conte also has Ryan Sessegnon at his disposal. So unless Spurs loan out Sessegnon in the summer transfer window, the need to sign another left wing-back option does not seem necessary. Nonetheless, Destiny Udogie has popped up on Tottenham’s radar.
The 19-year-old Italian defender is not the only left-back on Tottenham’s wishlist, with Villarreal ace Pervis Estupinan also emerging as a target. So it looks the north Londoners will likely dip their toes in the market for a left wing-back in the summer transfer window. But Udogie might not be the player to arrive at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with Udinese knocking back their approach.
In addition to the Lilywhites, Udogie was also a target for Juventus. But Udinese will look to retain the services of the 19-year-old Italian defender for at least another season before entertaining offers for him. So Tottenham will have to look for alternatives in the market to bolster the left wing-back reserves.
