Manchester City have reportedly scouted French youth prospect Sekou Mara, who has been impressing in the Maurice Revello Tournament this summer.

According to French publication Foot Mercato, Manchester United are keeping tabs on Bordeaux’s 19-year-old centre-forward Sekou Mara, who is making a huge impression for the France Under-20 side at the Maurice Revello Tournament.

Mara started at the PSG academy but left the club for AC Boulogne-Billancourt in 2014, where he spent three years before making his way to the Bordeaux youth setup in 2017. The young striker made his senior debut for the French outfit in February last year and has slowly grown in stature at the club, making 36 appearances in which he has seven goals and four assists.

Six of Mara’s seven goals for Bordeaux came in the Ligue 1 last season, but that was not enough for him to help the club avoid relegation. However, the youngster could be on the move in the summer with several prominent clubs keeping an eye on his performances at the Maurice Revello Tournament.

The much-coveted Under-20 competition has seen the French national team make it all the way to the finals, with Mara being at the forefront of their strong run. The 19-year-old striker has netted five goals so far in the tournament and is the leading goalscorer and his performances have not gone unnoticed.

The likes of Montpellier, Olympique de Marseille, Werder Bremen, SC Freiburg and Borussia Monchengladbach have all been watching Mara’s progress keenly. And now Manchester City have also joined the list of admirers of the 19-year-old forward and have sent scouts to monitor the teenage prodigy’s performances.

Manchester City have no immediate need for a new striker as they have secured two of the most exciting young centre-forwards in the game recently. Indeed, the Premier League champions landed Argentine international Julian Alvarez last January before loaning him out to his former club River Plate for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign.

Following that, Manchester City pulled off one of the biggest signings of the summer as they acquired Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund recently.

However, with Gabriel Jesus expected to leave permanently and Liam Delap likely to be sent out on loan, Manchester City could look to add another young centre-forward to their ranks to provide cover to their premier options while also filling in for the Under-23 side. It would make Mara a viable target for the Cityzens.

With Bordeaux open to selling their teenage prodigy for a fee of €10 million, it will be interesting to see if Manchester City decide to launch a move for Mara this summer.
