But the Spanish prodigy wants to remain at FC Barcelona, even though the two parties are no closer to reaching an agreement over a new contract.
Gavi has grabbed his golden opportunity with both hands to establish himself as a pivotal figure for club and country in the past year. The Spanish wonderkid made his first-team debut for Barcelona at the onset of the 2021/22 season amid a financial crisis at Camp Nou, with his exploits also earning him his bow for La Roja.
The 17-year-old wonderkid made 47 appearances for Barcelona this past season, chipping in with two goals and six assists. But Gavi’s Barcelona future is up in the air, as his contract runs out next year, and developments on the renewal front have been slow. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool.
Liverpool did not bolster the midfield department last summer despite Georginio Wijnaldum’s departure as a free agent. However, Liverpool could table a lucrative €9 million-a-year contract to the teenage wonderkid, which easily usurps Barcelona’s proposal.
