Newcastle United have reportedly been handed a boost in their pursuit of Ismaila Sarr, as Watford would be open to selling the forward this summer.
According to Sky Sports, relegated Premier League club Watford would entertain ‘sensible offers’ for star winger Ismaila Sarr in the summer transfer window, handing Newcastle United a boost in their pursuit of the Senegalese speedster.
Ismaila Sarr has been with Watford since 2019, when he arrived from Rennes in a club-record deal worth £40 million. He was one of the few positives for the Hornets in his debut season as the team ended up getting relegated. While he was expected to leave the club in 2020, he stayed put at Vicarage Road and helped the club win promotion back to the Premier League.
Back in the top flight for the 2021/22 campaign, Sarr did not have the most productive season as he missed a lot of matches due to injury and involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations. The 24-year-old ended the term with a return of five goals and two assists from 22 games in the Premier League, as Watford were relegated again.
Despite his poor campaign, Sarr continues to attract interest from clubs in the Premier League, with Newcastle United among his admirers heading into the summer transfer window.
After pulling off a miraculous comeback to beat the drop from the top flight, Newcastle United are prepping themselves for a vital summer as Eddie Howe looks to build a team that can push for the European spots in the upcoming campaign.
Given their overreliance on Allan Saint-Maximin for the creative spark in the final third, Newcastle are keen on adding another winger who can be a source of goals and create chances for his teammates. Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby has been touted as a target, although recent reports suggest that the Magpies have cooled their interest in the French ace due to the winger’s £60 million valuation.
Sarr is another player on the radars of Newcastle, and they have now been handed a boost in pursuit of the Senegalese international. The 24-year-old has two years left on his contract with Watford, and the Hornets are now prepared to listen to offers for the speedy winger, who won the Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Paying a significant fee for Sarr should not be an issue for Newcastle, thanks to the deep pockets of their new owners. However, the Tyneside outfit might have to compete with other interested parties such as Crystal Palace and Everton.
