Everton and West Ham United are reportedly among a host of clubs interested in Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to French publication L’Equipe, Everton and West Ham United are admirers of Stade Rennais’ young left-back Adrien Truffert, who is also attracting interest from clubs in Germany and the Netherlands.
Truffert has been on the books at Rennes since 2015 and has enjoyed a steady progression through the ranks at the Brittany club. The 20-year-old defender made his first-team breakthrough in 2020 and has since become a regular in the side, making 75 appearances for the French outfit.
Truffert turned out 43 times in all competitions for Rennes in 2021/22, even chipping in with three goals and assists apiece. The youngster was particularly impressive towards the back end of the campaign as he helped his club finish fourth in Ligue 1. And his performances have caught the eye of several clubs from across Europe, including Everton and West Ham United.
Everton signed a new left-back in January in the form of Vitaliy Mykolenko after surprisingly selling Lucas Digne. The Ukrainian international took some time to adapt to life in England but grew in stature with time and played an integral role in the Toffees avoiding relegation from the Premier League.
However, Frank Lampard does not have any cover in the left-back slot for Mykolenko, which is why Everton are on the lookout for a new player in the position. Everton have been linked with Manchester City’s Oleksandr Zinchenko, and now Truffert has also emerged as a prospective target for the Merseyside giants.
West Ham United, meanwhile, are also on the lookout for a new left-sided full-back as they are likely to part ways with the injury-prone Arthur Masuaku. It would leave David Moyes with only Aaron Cresswell as his primary option at left-back, forcing the London club’s hand to bring in a new player to add depth to the squad.
West Ham have been linked with Brazilian defender Guilherme Arana, while they are also in the hunt to sign Zinchenko from Manchester City. However, the Hammers are keeping their options open if they miss out on their top targets, with Adrien Truffert likely seen as a backup option.
Apart from Everton and West Ham United, Truffert is also on the radars of Leicester City, while Hoffenheim and AFC Ajax have also asked for information about the youngster. The 20-year-old’s contract with Rennes runs until 2025. So, the Ligue 1 club could demand a significant fee for the youngster, given his age and potential.
