La Liga heavyweights Barcelona are reportedly monitoring the situation of 31-year-old French international Wissam Ben Yedder closely this summer.
According to a report by L’Equipe, as relayed by Get French Football News, Wissam Ben Yedder is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 31-year-old French international could leave AS Monaco ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Wissam Ben Yedder went through UJA Alfortville and Toulouse before making it big in his professional career at Sevilla. During his three-year stint with the Andalusian club, the experienced striker went from strength to strength, establishing himself as one of the best forwards in La Liga.
The 31-year-old joined AS Monaco in August 2019 and has since taken his game to another level altogether, scoring goals for fun. The French international is coming off his best goalscoring season thus far, finding the back of the net 32 times in 52 games across all competitions. But Ben Yedder could leave Monaco this summer, with Barcelona closely monitoring his situation at Stade Louis II.
Barcelona will delve into the market for a striker in the summer transfer window, as Luuk de Jong has returned to Sevilla following the expiration of his loan deal. The Blaugrana will unlikely sign the Dutch international permanently, leaving a spot open in their attacking unit.
In addition, Martin Braithwaite could leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window to seek regular game-time despite some recent comments. The Catalan giants thus need to invest in a top-class striker in the summer transfer window, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the only other natural centre-forward at his disposal.
Several strikers have thus emerged on Barcelona’s radar, with Robert Lewandowski reportedly their chief target. And while the Polish international is desperate to join Barcelona, the Blaugrana could have some difficulties signing him amid Bayern Munich’s stubbornness to keep hold of him. Ben Yedder is hence a viable alternative for the La Liga heavyweights.

The 31-year-old French international is in the form of his life and is well-versed with the challenges of La Liga. So Ben Yedder can hit the ground running if he joins Barcelona, although his signing will likely depend on whether the Catalan giants fail in their pursuit of Lewandowski this summer.
