Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly among the clubs keen on signing Martin Braithwaite from Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Martin Braithwaite is the subject of interest from Brighton & Hove Albion over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Danish forward will likely leave Barcelona ahead of the 2022/23 season, with Valencia and Celta Vigo also showing an interest.
Martin Braithwaite joined Barcelona from CD Leganes in an emergency transfer in February 2020, with the Blaugrana allowed to sign him outside the transfer window. And the 30-year-old has been a handy option for all the managers he has played under in the last two and a half years.
But the Danish forward has seen his stock plummet in the past year, dropping to the bottom of the pecking order for attackers at Camp Nou. Braithwaite managed just 236 minutes of game-time in four appearances, scoring twice. And the player’s frustrations have understandably boiled over, with a summer departure likely amid interest from Brighton & Hove Albion.
Brighton & Hove Albion will likely enter the market for a striker in the summer transfer window, as Neal Maupay’s stature at the Amex Stadium has reduced drastically this season. In addition, Aaron Connolly’s future at the Premier League club remains up in the air after spending the second half of the campaign on loan at Middlesbrough.
So Danny Welbeck might be the only natural striker at Graham Potter’s disposal heading into the 2022/23 season, prompting Brighton to enter the market for a centre-forward. And Braithwaite has emerged as a viable target for the Seagulls, especially with his Barcelona future up in the air.
But Brighton will face stiff competition from Valencia and Celta Vigo in the race to sign the 30-year-old in the summer transfer window. Premier League’s rising giants Newcastle United have also shown an interest in signing Braithwaite from Barcelona.
