AC Milan have reportedly joined the chase for Manchester United target Victor Osimhen, with the Rossoneri ready to make an interesting offer to Napoli.
According to La Repubblica (h/t Sport Witness), AC Milan have entered the race for Victor Osimhen, with the forward edging towards an exit from Napoli in the summer. Manchester United remain in the hunt for the Nigerian hitman, who carries a big price tag, with Napoli demanding a fee over €100 million.
Victor Osimhen has been one of the top names on the lips of many big clubs in the Premier League heading into the summer transfer window. The style with which the Nigerian striker plays could suit English clubs, while his goalscoring record warrants a big investment.
Napoli are at a crossroads regarding Osimhen, as Aurelio De Laurentiis ponders a decision over the striker’s future. While the Napoli president remains keen to hold on to the forward, the eccentric Napoli supremo could sell him for an offer over €100 million.
Napoli reportedly rejected a bid worth €90 million from Arsenal, and the Gunners could be expected to go back with an improved offer. Meanwhile, other clubs from the Premier League, such as Manchester United, are keeping close tabs on the striker’s situation.
Napoli are looking to make a profit over their huge investment in the striker. They paid nearly €70 million to Lille to secure the services of the Nigerian international and would consider bids over €100 million to let him leave. Manchester United have been considered front-runners for his signature, as incoming boss Erik ten Hag wants him to replace the outgoing Edinson Cavani.
Manchester United want to sign a new striker in the summer, as they are left with only Cristiano Ronaldo as an out-and-out centre-forward at the club. Osmihen is considered a target, with a firm eye on the long-term future.
However, Manchester United now face competition from AC Milan, who have joined the hunt for the Nigerian international. Director Paolo Maldini is keen on the Nigerian and could be willing to make an attractive proposal in the coming weeks. Whether De Laurentiis will be open to letting him join a Serie A rival will remain a question.
However, things could move forward if the Rossoneri can sufficiently please the Napoli supremo with a financially viable offer. AC Milan, crowned Serie A champions on Sunday after 11 years, have a striker problem. They have Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Olivier Giroud as options, but their long-term futures and regular availability remain in doubt.
Milan are close to signing Divock Origi in the coming days and want to add another top-class striker to their squad. But there’s also the question of AC Milan being able to afford a striker like Osimhen, although they are confident of brokering a deal. Manchester United certainly have the cash to make such a deal happen, and the forward may be interested more in moving abroad than joining Napoli’s Serie A rivals.
