West Ham United have reportedly opened talks with Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis’s entourage over a possible summer move.
According to Football Insider, West Ham United have stepped up their pursuit of Watford forward Emmanuel Dennis as David Moyes tries to improve the Hammers’ attack ahead of the 2022/23 season. The 24-year-old joined the Hornets last summer but could be on his way out after just one season.
Watford have been relegated from the Premier League after managing just 23 points until the penultimate gameweek of the season. With the Hornets set to spend the next season in the EFL Championship, they could lose some of their top stars in the upcoming summer transfer window.
As per the report, Watford are ready to sell Dennis to add to their transfer budget as they prepare to return immediately to the Premier League. The Nigerian international’s representatives reportedly travelled to London to hold talks with interested parties, West Ham being one of them.
The 24-year-old has been one of the very few positives for the Hornets this season. He has scored ten goals in the Premier League, along with providing six assists following his €4 million move from Club Brugge last summer. Dennis is a versatile centre-forward who can also play on either flank and could thus prove to be a handy signing.
As far as West Ham are concerned, they are eager to continue challenging for European positions and are looking for attacking reinforcements this summer. Michail Antonio is the only recognised striker in their ranks and has managed nine Premier League goals this season.
Right-winger Jarrod Bowen has been West Ham’s biggest attacking outlet with 12 goals in the English top-flight and 18 across competitions. Thus, it is imperative for the east Londoners to sign a striker this summer, and Dennis has emerged as an option. The 24-year-old was also rumoured to be a transfer target for Manchester United.
West Ham were also linked with a shock move for Real Madrid attacker Eden Hazard, while Lille striker Jonathan David is also reportedly a transfer target.
