Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly weighing up a move for Eintracht Frankfurt wide-man Filip Kostic following Europa League success.
According to a report from Daily Express, Tottenham Hotspur have set their sights on a summer swoop for Filip Kostic, valued at around £25 million. Their scouts were in attendance in Seville during Eintracht Frankfurt’s UEFA Europa League final against Rangers, and they were left impressed by the winger’s performance.
It has compelled Tottenham to make a move in the upcoming summer transfer window. Kostic still has a year left in his contract at Eintracht Frankfurt – a club he loves very much. But a lucrative offer from the north Londoners could be hard to resist for the Eagles, despite their recent success in Europe.
Speaking of Europe, Kostic has established himself as one of the best crossers in the continent following his stellar displays in the UEFA Europa League this term. The Serbian wide-man was involved in nine goals in twelve matches, including the all-important assist for Rafael Santos Borre’s equaliser in the final.
Kostic’s performances have not only been limited to Europe, as the former HSV starlet has performed extremely well in the Bundesliga as well. Regarded as the best crosser in the league, the Serb has 63 assists to his name since joining Eintracht Frankfurt, 38 of which have come in the last three Bundesliga seasons.
Kostic’s numbers have not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham now prepared to make a move for the Frankfurt superstar at the end of the season. The north Londoners were linked with a move for the 29-year-old in January, but a move did not materialise.
This time around, coach Antonio Conte has grown desperate to sign him up in the summer as he looks to replace Sergio Reguilon. The Spaniard has struggled with form and discipline under the Tottenham manager, who is open to the idea of offloading him at the end of the season.
Reguilon’s potential exit could open up a void in Tottenham’s left wing-back department. But in Kostic, they could find themselves a talented wide player, who offers the speed, strength and crossing prowess that could go a long way in improving the club’s overall approach play. At £25 million, he might not be an expensive acquisition either.
Luring the Serbian wide-man, though, could be difficult for Tottenham as Kostic might favour remaining at Frankfurt for another year to play in the Champions League. Leaving the club in 2023 could also see him become available as a free agent, thus opening the prospect of earning a lucrative signing bonus, although it remains to be seen if Eintracht are willing to let him leave for free at the end of next season.
