West Ham United are reportedly plotting a bid to sign Juventus attacker Moise Kean if he is made available for transfer this summer.
According to the print edition of Tuttosport, as relayed by Il Bianconero, West Ham United are eyeing a summer swoop for Moise Kean and have made an enquiry for the Everton-owned striker ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
A Juventus academy product, the 22-year-old striker arrived at Everton in a £27 million transfer from the Turin giants in the summer of 2019. But, he struggled to make an impact on Merseyside before being offloaded to Paris Saint-Germain on a season-long loan in 2020. He excelled in the French capital and rediscovered his scoring boots, netting 17 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions for Les Parisiens.
Despite the stellar season with the French heavyweights, the Italian international opted to return to Turin. Kean re-joined Juventus from the Premier League side last summer on a two-year loan worth £6 million, with an obligation to buy him outright next year for £24 million if certain conditions are met.
Kean’s time at Juventus, though, has not gone as planned. While he has played a proactive role for the Italian outfit, making 12 starts and 25 substitute appearances in Serie A and the Champions League, his return of a mere six goals from those outings has failed to convince Massimiliano Allegri this season.
Furthermore, the blockbuster arrival of Serbian hitman Dusan Vlahovic has pushed him further down in the pecking order. With recent rumours linking the Bianconeri to striker targets such as Gabriel Jesus and Giacomo Raspadori, Kean is unlikely to feature in Allegri’s future plans, and Juventus are reportedly reluctant to retain the striker beyond this season.
As such, Juventus are willing to fulfil their commitment to sign Kean permanently one year early before trying to shift him to interested parties in the Premier League to make a quick buck.
West Ham are understood to be on the hunt for a striker this summer to ease the burden on primary striker Michail Antonio. They have long admired Kean’s profile, despite his struggles during his stint at Everton, having scored just four times in 39 games for the Toffees.
While his return to Turin has been a failure, Kean showed some promising signs during his loan spell at PSG and could end up being a fantastic addition for West Ham. He is a similar mould of centre-forward to Antonio – quick, tenacious, and athletic, with good technical skills and a powerful shot, while he can also drift out into wide areas if needed.
At 22 years old, Kean has time on his side to become a finished product. The good coaching and stable environment at West Ham would put him in a far better place to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League and allow him to develop rapidly.
Whether the east London club are willing to pay Juventus’ hefty asking price remains to be seen. But they are not alone in the race to capture the preciously talented Juventus attacker, with Arsenal viewing him as a potential alternative to main striker target Gabriel Jesus, while PSG are said to be monitoring the situation ahead of possibly trying to secure a reunion with Kean.
