Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza has emerged as a potential transfer target for Hertha Berlin and Bordeaux heading into the summer window.
According to Fichajes, German club Hertha Berlin and French outfit Bordeaux are interested in securing the services of Barcelona defender Oscar Mingueza in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Mingueza is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth setup. The defender, who can play at centre-back and right-back, got his first-team breakthrough last season under Ronald Koeman when the Catalan giants were struck down by injury issues. Mingueza made the most of his opportunities with the senior setup and featured regularly until the end of the 2020/21 campaign.
However, this season, Mingueza has found game-time hard to come by, especially after Xavi Hernandez took over the reins of the club in November last year. So far, the 23-year-old has featured in just 26 matches across all competitions this season, falling well down the pecking order at Camp Nou.
Indeed, Mingueza is behind Gerard Pique, Eric Garcia, Ronald Araujo and Clement Lenglet in the order of preference at centre-back. Meanwhile, at right-back, he finds Dani Alves and Sergino Dest ahead of him. With Barcelona plotting to bring in reinforcements in both positions over the summer, the La Masia graduate’s future has come under doubt.
Recent reports indicated that Barcelona’s La Liga rivals Valencia could be an option for Mingueza, with the Blaugrana offering them the services of the versatile 23-year-old. Los Che have held an interest in the Spaniard for some time now and could look to snap him up this summer.
However, Mingueza has also been presented with the option of leaving Spain altogether and moving abroad, as the defender is attracting interest from German club Hertha Berlin and French outfit Bordeaux. However, moving to either club might not appeal to the Barcelona defender.
Indeed, Bordeaux have been relegated from Ligue 1 after they finished at the bottom of the pile in 2021/22. Hertha are also staring at the possibility of a drop after losing their first leg relegation playoff tie against Hamburger SV. So, as things stand, a transfer to Valencia could be of much more appeal to Mingueza as he looks to prove his value away from Camp Nou.
