Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly involved in the race to sign Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Daichi Kamada this summer.
According to a report from Sport Bild (h/t Sport Witness), Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs interested in securing the services of Daichi Kamada. The Premier League giants are one of many teams who have been left impressed by the Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder’s performances in Europe, with Sevilla also involved in the chase.
Kamada’s current contract with Eintracht Frankfurt expires at the end of next season. It has led to widespread speculation linking him to a move away from the Deutsche Bank Park, especially in light of his consistent performances in the Bundesliga and Europe.
After making his breakthrough during the 2019/20 campaign, Kamada has become a standout player at Eintracht Frankfurt. An attacking midfielder by trade, the Japanese international has impressed everyone with his tactical nous and the ability to create a plethora of chances in the final third.
In many ways, Kamada resembles the style of his revered compatriot Shinji Kagawa. The Frankfurt man, though, is much more versatile as he can operate out wide and even as a secondary striker. He is also far more productive, having racked up 24 goals and 27 assists in 131 competitive appearances for the Eagles.
Kamada’s blazing performances have made him an appealing target for Tottenham Hotspur. With Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso likely to be offloaded, the Lilywhites are looking for a new playmaker who can complement the likes of Son Heung-min, Dejan Kulusevski and Harry Kane.
Tottenham have been linked with a move for former star Christian Eriksen. But Kamada could be a more reliable option given his age profile and the versatility that the 25-year-old offers to the table. It could bode well for a coach like Antonio Conte, who does not usually favour a traditional number ten role in his formations.
However, Tottenham’s pursuit of Kamada might ultimately lead to a dead-end, as per the report. The player is happy with his life in Frankfurt and is more than likely to sign a contract extension that would secure his long-term future at the club. And with the prospect of winning the UEFA Europa League looming, he has no reason to change. But Tottenham remain in the picture in case he opts for a change of scenery.
