Premier League heavyweights Chelsea have reportedly set their sights on Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro over a possible move in the summer.
According to a report by Daily Mirror, Casemiro is the subject of interest from Chelsea over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Brazilian midfielder could leave Real Madrid ahead of the 2022/23 season amid dragging talks over a contract renewal which have forced Los Blancos to consider his sale.
Casemiro has been one-third of a legendary midfield trifecta that has helped Real Madrid rule over Europe for much of the past decade. The 30-year-old has forged a formidable midfield partnership with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, with the trio setting the base for Real Madrid to be a fearsome team in La Liga and beyond.
The Brazilian international has made over 300 appearances for Real Madrid, going from strength to strength with each passing year. But Casemiro faces an uncertain future at Real Madrid amid long-dragging talks over a contract renewal. With the two parties not in agreement over increasing Casemiro’s salary, Los Blancos could cash in on the player, with the situation alerting Chelsea.
Chelsea might need to delve into the market for a holding midfielder in the summer transfer window, even though Conor Gallagher will likely become a crucial member of Thomas Tuchel’s squad next season. The Blues’ stance stems from the rising uncertainties surrounding the futures of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante.
While Jorginho is heavily linked with a possible return to Italy, Kante is courting interest from Manchester United, with Erik ten Hag keen on securing his services. Casemiro is thus a viable target to replace either Chelsea midfield stalwart, with the Real Madrid star also bringing a winning mentality and leadership to the table.
Real Madrid could be open to selling him for around €50 million, a fair price, considering Casemiro’s contract still has three years to run out. But Chelsea’s move for Casemiro will depend on his availability and the futures of Jorginho and Kante, thus setting up an intriguing summer.
