Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Sergio Arribas from Real Madrid in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Sergio Arribas is the subject of interest from Borussia Dortmund over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish attacker could leave Real Madrid ahead of the 2022/23 season, searching for regular playing time at the first-team level.
Sergio Arribas went through his formative years at three Spanish clubs, spending most of his time at Real Madrid after moving to La Fabrica from Leganes in 2012. The 20-year-old progressed through the ranks at Real Madrid rapidly before making his professional debut nearly two years ago.
Arribas earned his first-team debut in September 2020, and Zinedine Zidane utilised him a few more times last season. But the Spanish attacker has exclusively played for Real Madrid Castilla this term, amassing 14 goals and five assists in 33 appearances in the Segunda Division. Arribas could leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund setting sights on him.
Borussia Dortmund will undergo a squad overhaul in the summer transfer window, with Sebastian Kehl set to take over from Michael Zorc as their sporting director. And the 42-year-old wants to oversee a quick remodel of the first-team squad, aiming to build a unit capable of taking the challenge to Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
Amid such developments, Julian Brandt and Thorgan Hazard face uncertain futures at the Signal Iduna Park, and the duo could leave Borussia Dortmund in the summer transfer window. Arribas has thus emerged as a viable target, with his ability to play on either flank and centrally making him an appealing prospect.
The Bundesliga giants have also been linked with another Real Madrid attacker in Luka Jovic, with the Serb keen on returning to Germany after struggling to establish a foothold at Real Madrid. And the Black and Yellows have contacted Los Blancos over a move for Arribas in the summer transfer window.
As per the report, Real Madrid will be open to selling Arribas to Borussia Dortmund while including a clause to re-sign him in future. Such a decision worked wonders in Dani Carvajal’s case, with the Spanish international moving to Bundesliga before returning to Real Madrid. It will be interesting to see if a transfer materialises in the summer transfer window.
