Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are among the clubs involved in the race to sign Argentine whizkid Charly Alcaraz.
A recent report from Marca has offered an update on the future of Charly Alcaraz. Dubbed as the next big thing to come out of Racing Club after Lautaro Martinez, the midfielder has become one of the most sought-after youngsters in his native Argentina, with a host of top clubs across Europe keen on acquiring his services.
Tottenham and Arsenal are among the clubs keeping close tabs on Alcaraz’s progress in Argentina. Many want to rope him to Europe in the coming summer, although Racing Club have no intention to offload their midfielder just yet and are currently holding out for a figure of around €20 million, even though he has a higher release clause of €25 million.
It is quite a fortune for a player who has featured in only 58 competitive matches for Racing Club. But his lack of experience can be deceiving as the youngster has shown tremendous maturity, composure and technical ability for a player of his age.
A central midfielder by trade, the 19-year-old Alcaraz is indeed a technically astute midfielder, who has natural attacking instincts. With eight goals and six assists in his 58 competitive appearances, the youngster offers excellent productivity for a midfielder, which is barely surprising as he can operate in many positions.
Alcaraz is capable of featuring as a wide midfielder and even as a number ten. His versatility, coupled with his technical prowess have not gone unnoticed, with Arsenal, in particular, keeping close tabs on his situation. It appears the Gunners are eyeing a summer swoop for the young Argentine in light of the club’s lack of depth in midfield.
Mikel Arteta does indeed lack the numbers in midfield and is currently desperate to add new faces, having been linked with a move for Konrad Laimer, among many others.
The same can be said for their arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, who are expected to offload the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks in the summer, with coach Antonio Conte keen on rebuilding his team regardless of his team’s league position come the end of the season.
The addition of someone like Charly Alcaraz could be a shrewd piece of business for both these London giants. The youngster doesn’t have much experience at the highest level but has the potential to become a star in the Premier League, although his €20 million price tag could become an obstacle for the interested parties.
Furthermore, interest from the likes of Juventus, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, PSV Eindhoven, Sevilla and Wolves could further complicate matters for Arsenal and Tottenham in their pursuit of Charly Alcaraz.
