La Liga heavyweights are reportedly closing in on signing Spanish under-19 international Noel Lopez, who plays as a striker for Deportivo La Coruna.
According to a report by Spanish publication AS, Noel Lopez is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Merengues are taking steps to get closer to securing the services of the Spanish under-19 international from Deportivo La Coruna.
Noel Lopez spent some of his formative years at San Tirso SD before joining Deportivo La Coruna a few years ago. The move to the Galician club has worked wonders for the progress of the 19-year-old striker, who has gone from strength to strength in the last few years.
This season, the teenage prodigy has made swift progress in the first-team setup at Ciudad Deportiva de Riazor, turning 28 times for Deportivo La Coruna while scoring four goals. Lopez’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest clubs in Spain, including Real Madrid, setting their sights on him.
The interest from Real Madrid stems from the uncertainties surrounding the futures of Juanmi Latasa and Andri Gudjohnsen. The two young strikers could leave Real Madrid in the summer transfer window, thereby creating the need for Los Blancos to scour the market for two centre-forwards ahead of the 2022/23 season.
To that end, Noel Lopez and Loren Zuniga have emerged as targets for Real Madrid, with the Whites reportedly in talks with Malaga over a summer move for Zuniga. The Spanish giants are also making moves to get closer to securing the services of Lopez, who is a Spanish under-19 teammate of Zuniga’s.
But Real Madrid will not be the only big Spanish club pursuing the signature of the 19-year-old, with local rivals Atletico Madrid also keen on signing him in the summer transfer window. With two of the biggest clubs in Spain hot on his trail, Lopez could be poised to leave Deportivo La Coruna in the summer transfer window.
Moving to Real Madrid could be a big opportunity for Noel Lopez, even though he will initially join the Castilla side. But with Luka Jovic facing an uncertain future at Real Madrid amid links with Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich and other clubs, Lopez could have the chance to progress to the first-team setup quickly.
