Aston Villa are reportedly closing in on the signing of Scottish teenage prodigy Ewan Simpson from Hearts, with talks in advanced stages.
According to Football Insider, Aston Villa are in advanced negotiations to secure the signing of Scottish midfield prospect Ewan Simpson and are set to beat their rivals for the transfer.
Simpson is a product of the Heart of Midlothian academy and has been making waves in youth football in Scotland. The 15-year-old midfielder has impressed heavily for the Hearts’ Under-18 side and is widely regarded as one of the most exciting prospects in the country. He has also done well for the Scotland national team at age-group levels.
Simpson’s immense potential has seen him attract a lot of interest from clubs in England and Scotland, but as per the report, Aston Villa are in pole position to sign the teenage prodigy at the end of the season.
The Villans have been in talks with Hearts over a move for Simpson for some time now. And they are now believed to be closing in on finalising the deal, with negotiations in very advanced stages. Manager Steven Gerrard’s knowledge of the Scottish market after he spent time with Rangers may have also given them an edge in pursuit of the 15-year-old.

With an agreement reported to be close, Aston Villa and Hearts are set for another meeting later this month, which could lead to Simpson making the move to England before the summer transfer window officially opens.
Under their new owners, Wes Edens and Naseef Sawiris, Aston Villa have focused a lot on youth recruitment. And considering that the likes of Jacob Ramsey and Carney Chukwuemeka have made headway into the first-team setup at Villa Park, the Midlands club can be an appealing destination for up-and-coming prospects.
Indeed, Aston Villa struck an agreement to sign 16-year-old prospect Omari Kellyman from relegated EFL Championship outfit Derby County earlier this year. And they are now set to follow that up with the addition of Simpson.
While things are looking good for Aston Villa on the youth recruitment front, a huge summer awaits Gerrard’s side at the senior level. The Villans have already confirmed the capture of Philippe Coutinho permanently from Barcelona and will likely invest more in the coming months.
