West Ham United are among the clubs interested in the services of Alberth Elis, who could leave Boavista in the summer.
According to a report from Diez, Alberth Elis could be on the verge of leaving Boavista at the end of the season. The winger is currently plying his trade on loan at Bordeaux, but with the Ligue 1 outfit destined for relegation, the attacker is expected to return to his parent club Boavista in the summer.
But it appears Elis wants to leave the Portuguese outfit as well, in favour of a move to a bigger club. West Ham are among the clubs to have shown the desire to sign the attacker, although the Premier League outfit are set to face stiff competition from Wolfsburg, Fiorentina and Rayo Vallecano.
A player with 55 appearances for the Honduran national team, Elis is not a newbie by any means. The attacker had initially started his career at native Honduran club Olympia CD before going on to play in other North American leagues such as Liga MX and MLS.
The attacker moved to Europe in 2020, joining Boavista in a deal worth only a million. It has proven to be a bargain for the Portuguese outfit as the 26-year-old was involved in 14 league goals in his maiden season in Liga NOS. He was subsequently sent out on loan to Bordeaux last summer in order to get the taste of bigger leagues.
Elis didn’t disappoint in France either. In his maiden season in Ligue 1, the winger has been involved in ten goals for a Bordeaux side destined for relegation. While the defence has been the main problem for the club, Elis has managed to contribute more than 20% of their entire goal-tally for the season.
Unfortunately, the Honduran’s progress in Ligue 1 was marred by an unfortunate injury last month that has since kept him out on the sidelines. But that hasn’t deterred a club like West Ham, who are determined to sign the attacker amid uncertainties over the future of Jarrod Bowen.
At the age of 26, David Moyes believes Alberth Elis has the experience and the quality to thrive in the Premier League. He could be an ideal competitor for the likes of Said Benrahma, Nikola Vlasic, Pablo Sarabia and possibly Bowen if the former Hull City starlet remains at the London Stadium.
Elis is unlikely to cost a fortune either, making him an appealing target for West Ham United as they look to shore up their offensive department in the coming summer.
