Tottenham are reportedly interested in making a move for PSG star Idrissa Gueye in the summer to improve their options in midfield.
According to Jeunes Footeux, Idsissa Gueye could be a target for Tottenham in the summer after falling out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino at Paris Saint-Germain this season. The midfielder’s contract expires in 2023, leading to the French giants considering his future ahead of the next window.
Idrissa Gueye has made a name in football for his consistent contribution from midfield at all the clubs he has featured for. His high levels of performance attracted PSG, as they paid £28 million to Everton in the summer of 2019.
Things have been fruitful since, as Gueye made an instant impact in Paris. He slotted in effortlessly in a star-studded squad and grew into a valuable player at Parc des Princes. This season, however, things have not been merry for the midfielder, who has managed only 18 starts in Ligue 1.
With a year left on his contract. PSG are reportedly willing to entertain offers in the summer. The Parisians might let Gueye leave if a proposal worth €20 million arrives, although any club paying that much for a 32-year-old seems difficult.
PSG are already looking at options to replace the midfielder. They are battling to sign Corentin Tolliso from Bayern Munich while other options are under consideration. PSG are also looking at Chelsea’s Jorginho. These are top quality players to replace Gueye in the summer, as the Senegalese international reportedly attracts the attention of Tottenham in the summer.
Tottenham are in the market to strengthen their squad in multiple positions. Manager Antonio Conte is keen on bringing in several players to improve different areas of the roster as he looks to build a team capable of challenging Liverpool and Manchester City at the top.
Tottenham could allow several stars to leave the club in the summer to spark a massive overhaul. And midfield is a department where new incomings could be on the cards given Harry Winks’ uncertain future and Oliver Skipp’s recent injury ordeals.
Tottenham currently have Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, as his first-choice midfielders, with Winks and Skipp forming squad options. Conte might look for an experienced player to add more stability and quality depth to the roster. Gueye is hence considered for a transfer in the summer, with the club expected to make an offer.
It remains to be seen whether Tottenham are willing to pay the €20 million asking price, although the north Londoners are likely to negotiate the fee.
