Liverpool hoping to complete £4 million deal for Calvin Ramsay

Liverpool want to sign Aberdeen youngster Calvin Ramsay on a £4 million deal in the summer, with Leeds United also involved in the chase.

According to a report from Goal, Liverpool are in the market for Calvin Ramsay. They have identified the Aberdeen youngster as an ideal understudy to Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the Reds prepared to fork out £4 million for the player.

A right-back by trade, Ramsay has been one of the rising stars in Scottish Premiership this term. A talented player coming out of the club’s own youth academy, the youngster was promoted to Aberdeen’s senior team last summer, and since then, he has gone on to become an integral figure in the club’s backline.

In his maiden season in professional football, Ramsay has racked up 24 league appearances. He has been involved in six goals as well, emerging as one of the few bright sparks in an otherwise dire campaign for Aberdeen.

With his club underperforming in the Scottish Premiership, Ramsay could be open to moving elsewhere in the coming summer. Liverpool, for one, have emerged as one of the potential destinations for the youngster, as he looks to take the next step in his career.

Currently embroiled in a tense title race with Manchester City, the Reds are in desperate need of reinforcements in the right-back unit. They lack the services of a proper backup for Alexander-Arnold, especially with Neco Williams keen on continuing at Fulham following an impressive spell on loan in London.

Williams’s permanent exit could create a void in the right-back unit, with Calvin Ramsay fitting the bill perfectly. The 18-year-old can serve as an alternative for Alexander-Arnold, potentially becoming an option in cup competitions.

The youngster has shown immense potential during his time in the Scottish Premiership this term. And at the age of just 18, he has time on his side and the ability to become one of the finest in the business. It makes him an appealing target for Liverpool, although the Reds are set to face stiff competition from Leeds United.

Signing Ramsay could indeed be tricky knowing the player might not enjoy playing second fiddle in this crucial stage of his career. A move to Leeds United could make much more sense, in that regard, especially with the Whites growing frustrated over number one right-back Luke Ayling, possibly paving the way for Ramsay to become a wild card option for coach Jesse Marsch next season.

However, as per the report, the Reds are hopeful of completing a transfer for the youngster in a deal worth £4 million. It now remains to be seen if they can beat Leeds to his signing.
