Sevilla will reportedly provide competition to La Liga rivals Barcelona in the race to sign Spanish left-back Javi Galan, who has an €18 million exit clause.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Javi Galan is the subject of interest from Sevilla over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Spanish left-back, who has a release clause worth €18 million in his Celta Vigo contract, is also a target for Barcelona.
Javi Galan has continued on his upward trajectory since joining Celta Vigo from Huesca in the summer transfer window, retaining his status as one of the most underrated left-backs in La Liga. This season, the 27-year-old has been a pivotal figure for Celta Vigo amid the Galician club’s battle to finish in the top half of the La Liga table.
The Spanish defender has chipped in with three assists in 33 La Liga appearances while making an impression with his defensive ability. And Galan’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with some of the biggest top-flight clubs, including Barcelona and Sevilla, showing an interest in signing him in the summer transfer window.
The interest from Barcelona stems from the advancing years of Jordi Alba, who has been showing signs of age catching up with him. The Blaugrana will also need to invest in a left-back in the summer transfer window as Alejandro Balde is yet to establish a foothold in the first-team setup at Camp Nou.
Galan is thus a viable target for Barcelona and of the right age profile to compete with Alba while also allowing Balde to continue his gradual progression as a first-team regular. But Barcelona will need to fend off stiff competition from La Liga rivals Sevilla in the race to sign the Spanish left-back.
Sevilla’s pursuit of Galan comes in the wake of widespread speculation linking Marcos Acuna with a possible exit in the summer transfer window, with Manchester United showing an interest. Galan is thus an option worth considering for Los Nervionenses, with his €18 million release clause making him an affordable target.

Interestingly, the €18 million release clause is proving to be a hindrance for Barcelona, who might end up prioritising a move for Marcos Alonso instead. So Galan might be destined to join Sevilla if he leaves Celta Vigo, with Barcelona likely to set sights on alternatives in the summer transfer window.
