Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani is reportedly eyeing a move to Argentine giants Boca Juniors.
According to a report by the Argentine version of AS, Edinson Cavani is close to leaving Manchester United with his contract with the Red Devils expiring this summer. The Uruguayan forward will complete two years with Manchester United at the end of the current season, but the association seems to be coming to an end now.
The report states that Cavani does not feature in the plans of incoming manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutch tactician has already started planning for the next season and does not believe the former Paris Saint-Germain striker fits the bill. With no contract extension in sight, Cavani is set to be one of the many outgoings from Manchester United this summer.
The 35-year-old is reportedly on the transfer radar of Argentine giants Boca Juniors, who are willing to sign him up in a Bosman move ahead of the new season. They were interested in the Uruguayan forward’s signature last season as well but the striker ended up signing a one-year extension with Manchester United.
But after a lacklustre 2021/22 season that has seen him make just 12 Premier League appearances for Manchester United, he could finally be on his way out. Coupled with fitness issues, the arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo cut down on Cavani’s game time and he was restricted to just two league goals this season.
Cavani had emerged as a reliable option upfront in his first season with the club, often changing the side’s approach after coming on with his incessant pressing and poacher instincts. In all, Cavani has made 56 appearances for the Red Devils across competitions, scoring 19 and assisting seven goals.
The veteran forward now seems destined to leave Manchester Untied, but there is still little clarity over which club he would end up joining.
