Arsenal front-runners to sign Cody Gakpo

Arsenal offer €47 million to sign Chelsea target Riccardo Calafiori, told to pay more.

Arsenal could be ahead of the queue to sign Cody Gakpo in the summer, with links to the Dutch forward getting intense despite competition from rivals.

According to Dutch outlet PSV Fans, Arsenal have shown concrete interest in Cody Gakpo, with attention on the PSV Eindhoven forward increasing by the day. Liverpool and Manchester City are also keen on signing the Dutch international, who could be on the move in the summer window.

Cody Gakpo has proven himself to be a solid attacking option with a tremendous season under his belt. The Dutch youngster has notched 18 goals across all competition while provided 15 assists to boot, helping PSV fight for the Eredivisie title with Ajax.

Naturally, there is considerable interest from the Premier League, with Arsenal leading the race to sign the winger. The Gunners are reportedly ahead of the queue of clubs vying for Gakpo’s signature in the summer, with Mikel Arteta eyeing attacking reinforcements in the next window.

Arsenal are also keen on signing Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City, with talks progressing well. The Brazilian is considered one among at least two forwards Arteta is seeking from the summer transfer window, with the Brazilian’s versatility being the attractive point for the Arsenal manager.

The interest in Gakpo stems from their need to bring in a left-sided wide forward, despite the presence of Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe. The latter is considered more for an attacking midfield role, and Arteta is likely to move him slightly deeper next season, while Martinelli is pencilled in to play centrally for Arsenal.

Jesus could provide Arsenal with a versatile option as Arteta wants a fluid attacking setup that allows him to shuffle the pack with each passing game. The north Londoners are also seeking a striker who can act as a focal point, with players like AS Roma’s Tammy Abraham linked with a big move, among other notable names.

Gakpo could be considered a high-quality squad option as Arsenal are expected to play European football next season. There will be plenty of games for every player in the squad, although a player like Gakpo still needs to prove his overall fitness to compete in a team of Arsenal’s calibre.

In addition to Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City are also interested in the Dutch attacker. Liverpool may look at him only if Mohamed Salah departs without signing a new contract. Manchester City could be part of the race due to the uncertain futures of Jesus and Raheem Sterling.

Arsenal may seem well ahead of the pack and could formalise their interest with a concrete offer in the summer. However, there are other names the Gunners are keeping an eye out for. Meanwhile, considering the amount of interest in Gakpo from Liverpool and Manchester City, the Dutch international is expected to depart PSV in the next window.
