Bayern Munich will reportedly not entertain any approach for Lucas Hernandez, thereby handing Barcelona a blow in pursuit of the French defender.
According to a report by German outlet Sport1, Barcelona’s attempts to sign Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window will not bear fruit. The Bundesliga champions have no intention of cashing in on the French defender, who looks set to stay put at the Allianz Arena.
Lucas Hernandez joined Bayern Munich from Atletico Madrid in a club-record €80 million deal in July 2019. But the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner initially faced teething problems at the Allianz Arena, as he struggled to carve a place for himself in the Bavarian club’s first-team setup.
However, the 26-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign and is finally establishing a foothold at Bayern Munich. To date, Hernandez has made 94 appearances for the Bundesliga champions, chipping in with one goal and seven assists. And the French international’s improved displays have captured the attention of Barcelona.
The interest from Barcelona stems from the rampant uncertainties surrounding the futures of Clement Lenglet and Samuel Umtiti. The two French centre-backs will likely leave Barcelona in the summer transfer window after the Blaugrana deemed them surplus to requirements at Camp Nou.
Hernandez is thus a viable target for Barcelona to bolster the central defensive ranks. At the same time, the 26-year-old can become a solution for the left-back berth, with Jordi Alba’s performance levels starting to decline. So the Bayern Munich defender was seemingly a one-stop fix at Camp Nou.
However, Barcelona’s hopes of signing Hernandez have received a blow, with Bayern Munich unwilling to entertain the idea of cashing in on the French defender. Barcelona will thus need to set sights on alternatives for both the centre-back and left-back slots, with Javi Galan one of their targets for the latter.

As for centre-backs, several players are linked with Barcelona, with Alessio Romagnoli in talks with the Blaugrana. But signing Lucas Hernandez from Bayern Munich appears improbable, with the Bundesliga heavyweights determined to keep hold of the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner beyond the summer transfer window.
