Benfica will reportedly demand €20 million to part with Alejandro Grimaldo, with the 26-year-old Spanish left-back a target for Barcelona.
According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona will need to shell out €20 million to secure the services of Alejandro Grimaldo in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old Benfica defender is one of the candidates on Barcelona’s radar to bolster their left-back options ahead of the 2022/23 season.
Alejandro Grimaldo spent most of his formative years in Barcelona’s fabled academy, La Masia, before leaving the club to join Benfica in January 2016, searching for regular game-time. The decision has paid off handsomely, even though the Spanish left-back dealt with a few injury woes a few years ago.
The 26-year-old is now a pivotal figure for the Portuguese giants and has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, chipping in with six goals and nine assists in 47 appearances thus far. But Grimaldo could leave Benfica in the summer transfer window, with his contract expiring on June 30, 2023. Such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona.
Barcelona will have to enter the market for a left-back in the summer transfer window as Jordi Alba is approaching the final phase of his illustrious career. The veteran Spanish left-back has shown signs of age catching up with him in the last few years, meaning Barcelona will need to seek a backup for him ahead of the 2022/23 season.
While Alejandro Balde is primed for big things at Camp Nou, he is yet to establish a foothold in the first-team setup. As a result, several left-backs, including Alejandro Grimaldo, have popped up on Barcelona’s radar in the last few months, with priority target Jose Gaya unlikely to leave Valencia.
Recent reports have claimed that the Catalan giants are stepping up their efforts to land Grimaldo in the summer transfer window. And they now know how much they will have to shell out to prise the 26-year-old Spanish left-back in the summer transfer window, with Benfica demanding €20 million for him.

The €20 million price tag should ideally fall within Barcelona’s budget, but it will be interesting to see if they look to offset the cost by facilitating a part-exchange deal. For now, Grimaldo could be getting closer to joining Barcelona in the summer transfer window, although other options, like Javi Galan, are also on their radar.
