Newcastle United are reportedly plotting an ambitious summer swoop for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
According to a report from Daily Mirror, Newcastle United are eyeing a move for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. The Tottenham Hotspur midfield general has emerged as one of the club’s top midfield summer targets as Eddie Howe looks to shore up his options in the middle of the park. It appears he is set to receive the backing from the owners as well, with NUFC weighing up a £30 million move.
Newcastle United’s interest in Hojbjerg stems from the uncertainty surrounding Tottenham’s squad in the upcoming summer transfer window. There is no secret Antonio Conte wants a major rebuild after the end of the season, and he has already given the green light for the sale of multiple first-team stars including Sergio Reguilon.
Newcastle United are hoping Hojbjerg could be another player likely to be axed by Tottenham in the summer. Despite being a lynchpin in the club’s midfield unit, the Dane’s role in the first team could dwindle next season as Conte looks to bring in reinforcements in the middle of the park.
The Lilywhites have already been linked with a move for AS Monaco’s rising superstar Aurelien Tchouameni. And Newcastle United, therefore, sense it could open up an ideal market opportunity for them to snap him Hojbjerg from Tottenham in the summer.
Newcastle United had brought in considerable quality in January, notably roping in Bruno Guimaraes. It appears Howe is looking to add more quality in the middle of the park ahead of a crucial season where the Magpies will be hoping to at least compete for the European places.
Signing a leader like Hojbjerg could prove to be an excellent coup for a club that requires proven Premier League quality in order to finish in the top half of the campaign. With several appearances for Tottenham and Southampton, Hojbjerg can bring both quality and experience to the table, making him an ideal signing for Newcastle United.

However, luring him away from Tottenham could be a tricky affair for Newcastle United, knowing the Danish midfield general is still regarded as one of the most crucial members of the first team. The midfielder’s leadership and work ethic have been critical behind Tottenham’s recent success, so it will be surprising to see him depart the club in the coming summer.
