Manchester United make enquiry for Jurrien Timber

Manchester United’s future coach Erik ten Hag is eyeing a reunion with Jurrien Timber at Old Trafford next season.

According to a report from ESPN, Erik ten Hag has already started laying out his plans for the coming summer after being appointed as the Manchester United coach next season. The Dutchman is targeting multiple options in the market, and one of them could be Jurrien Timber.

Ten Hag currently manages the young defender at Ajax, having played a key role in overseeing his development over the past year or so. A centre-back is indeed regarded as one of the most promising young defensive talents in Europe, and it appears a summer move to Old Trafford could be on the horizon.

Timber made his initial breakthrough last season, featuring in 20 league appearances. He had made a solid impression with his positional sense and technical brilliance, which complemented his pace and athleticism, making him an excellent all-round centre-back.

Such qualities have made the 20-year-old a first-team regular at Ajax this term, with the defender even racking up 27 league appearances. His defensive contributions have been vital in helping Ajax attain the meanest defensive record in the league, conceding a total of just 15 goals.

Timber’s performances have not gone unnoticed either, with the youngster being handed six caps for the national team so far. And it appears a move to Premier League could follow, with Manchester United more than prepared to offer him an opportunity to prove his worth in the English top-flight. As per the report, the Premier League club have made enquiries over his availability this summer through intermediaries.

The Red Devils, after all, are bracing themselves for a tough summer ahead, with multiple defensive personnel expected to leave the club. Eric Bailly has been already linked with a move to Marseille while Phil Jones is set to be offloaded as well. It has accentuated the need for a fresh face at the back, with Timber fitting the bill perfectly.

Timber has an excellent relationship with ten Hag and is perfected suited to the Dutchman’s tactical philosophy. At the age of 20, he also has time on his side and the potential to become one of the best in the world within the coming years, potentially making him a smart long-term investment for the Premier League giants this summer.
