Manchester United and Liverpool are set to go head to head with Rangers in the race to sign Aberdeen youngster Lancelot Pollard.
Scottish football has generated a myriad of talented youth players in recent years and the conveyor belt of talents appears to have no end in sight, with Lancelot Pollard becoming the latest sensation tipped to achieve great things in the future. Currently plying his trade with Aberdeen, the youngster has become a target for multiple clubs across Europe, including Rangers, reports Scottish Daily Express.
However, the Gers are expecting fierce competition in the pursuit of Pollard, with Manchester United and Liverpool among the clubs involved in the chase. Rangers are looking to gain an upper hand by tabling a six-figure offer for the player, but the deal could hinge on multiple factors.
Manchester United and Liverpool, after all, boast one of the best youth development facilities any youngster can possibly expect, with both clubs also managing to integrate several homegrown prospects into the first team in recent years.
Manchester United have been extremely successful in this context, nurturing talents such as Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay, Anthony Elanga and Brandon Williams among many others. The stress on developing young players could only increase under the leadership of the newly-appointed Erik ten Hag, who is set to replace Ralf Rangnick after the end of the season.
Liverpool have had their fair share of success too, including Trent Alexander-Arnold’s rapid ascension coupled with Curtis Jones becoming a key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s midfield setup. And in Lancelot Pollard, the two Premier League giants could land themselves a gem who has shown immense talent in the Scottish youth division so far.
An attacker by trade, Pollard has enjoyed immense success with Aberdeen’s youth academy. He is regarded as one of the best players to come out of the Dons’ youth academy in recent years, with many expecting him to make a telling impact in professional football.
Manchester United and Liverpool could both prove to be interesting options for Pollard, though it is apparent that Rangers are leading the chase. The Gers are already expected to come up with an offer and as a Scottish team, they may have the upper hand, knowing the Aberdeen starlet might not be too keen on making the leap south of the border just yet.
Playing at the Ibrox is a dream for most Scottish teenagers and the same could apply to Pollard as he looks to make his mark in the Scottish Premiership before taking the next big step in his career.
