Premier League giants Arsenal are ready to offer £50 million to sign Tammy Abraham from AS Roma.
According to the Daily Star, Arsenal are ready to resume their pursuit of former Chelsea and current AS Roma forward Tammy Abraham. The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for the English international last year before he eventually moved to Italy.
After growing frustrated with a bit-part role at Chelsea, Tammy Abraham was pushing for a move away from the club in the last summer transfer window. Arsenal, who have been on the lookout for a striker for quite some time now, showed interest in the England international but were outbid by Roma, who signed the 24-year-old in a £36 million deal.
Abraham took no time in settling down in Italy and immediately picked up an impressive goal-scoring form for Jose Mourinho’s side. In 46 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A giants, Abraham has scored 24 and assisted five goals. His form has helped Roma stay in contention for a top-four finish in the league.
Even though the English forward will have four years remaining on his contract with Roma, his form has caught the attention of a few Premier League clubs. Arsenal are one such interested party.
The Gunners’ quest of finding a world-class striker to lead their attack is well-documented. First-team forwards Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah will both run out of their respective contracts this summer. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was allowed to leave for Barcelona this winter, which further reduced their options upfront.
So, a new striker has become a top priority for Arsenal, with several names ranging from Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton to Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus being linked. Now former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham has also emerged as a transfer target for the north London giants.
But Arsenal’s pursuit of Abraham could depend on their Champions League qualification. The Gunners are currently involved in a tight race with north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to finish as the fourth-best team in the Premier League this season.
Arsenal are ready to offer Roma £50 million to sign the striker this summer if Champions League qualification is secured. Chelsea have inserted a buy-back clause while selling Abraham to Roma, which would allow them to buy the Englishman for £68 million, but that would only come into effect next summer. It will be interesting to see whether Arsenal can bring the 24-year-old back to London.
