Tottenham ready to sell Joe Rodon

Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to sell out-of-favour centre-back Joe Rodon in the summer transfer window.

According to Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur are ready to entertain offers for Welsh centre-back Joe Rodon. The 24-year-old has failed to break into Antonio Conte’s plans, and the club are ready to offload him this summer.

Rodon joined Tottenham in a €12 million deal from Swansea City in the 2020 summer window. He has struggled to cement a spot in the first team, making sporadic appearances in his first season with the club. He made 12 Premier League appearances for Spurs in the 2020/21 season.

The arrival of Antonio Conte further diminished his game time as the defender has made just one Premier League appearance this season, and none since the Italian took over. Conte has instead preferred the likes of Cristian Romero, Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Davinson Sanchez, leaving Rodon well down the pecking order.

In all, the 24-year-old has made eight appearances for Tottenham across competitions this season, which is nowhere enough for a player of his age. Conte had previously claimed that Rodon is being used as a cover for Eric Dier, which explains the Welshman’s continued presence in matchday squads, but that does not convert to minutes on the pitch.

With no solution to his current situation at the club in sight, Spurs are ready to offload the defender this summer. Tottenham have reportedly informed Rodon to find a new club for himself. The player himself is eager to move on in search of more game time. However, the club could struggle to recoup the fees they paid to Swansea for the defender’s services.

The Welsh international was linked with a January move to the likes of Newcastle United and Brighton, but nothing concrete came out of it. Reports claim Tottenham could not agree on terms with interested clubs, and Rodon stayed put. But this summer could finally spell the end of his Tottenham career even with over three years remaining on his contract.

It remains to be seen whether Newcastle and Brighton approach Tottenham for Rodon’s signature again or new potential suitors join the pursuit.
