Tottenham in transfer tussle to sign Denzel Dumfries

Manchester United are ready to swap Victor Lindelof to land Inter Milan star Denzel Dumfries.

Premier League heavyweights Tottenham are interested in signing 26-year-old Dutch wing-back Denzel Dumfries from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Denzel Dumfries is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 26-year-old Inter Milan wing-back is also a target for Bayern Munich.

Denzel Dumfries joined Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven last summer following a successful three-year stint with the Dutch club. The Dutch international initially experienced teething problems at San Siro but has exploded to become a pivotal figure for the Serie A giants, thanks to some splendid performances in the last few months.

While the 26-year-old has not been as productive as predecessor Achraf Hakimi, he has still been impressive enough to produce a tally of four goals and seven assists in 39 appearances thus far. Dumfries’s exploits have not gone unnoticed, with Tottenham Hotspur among his prospective suitors.

The interest from Tottenham stems from the inconsistencies of Emerson Royal. Since arriving from Barcelona last summer, the Brazilian international has struggled to make an impression. The former Real Betis wing-back was initially the first-choice right wing-back for Tottenham but has fallen behind Matt Doherty in the pecking order in the past month.

Emerson could leave the north London club in the summer transfer window after just one season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Doherty has done well to become the first-choice right wing-back, but Tottenham will look to bring in someone to compete with the Irish defender, who has yet to convince fully.

To that end, several full-backs, including Wilfried Singo, have emerged on Tottenham’s radar, with Dumfries also a viable target. But Tottenham will need to fend off stiff competition from Bayern Munich to sign the 26-year-old from Serie A giants Inter Milan in the summer transfer window.

But the interest from Bayern Munich is surprising, considering Noussair Mazraoui is closing in on joining them from Ajax in a Bosman move. So Tottenham could have a clear run at Dumfries, although it will be interesting to see if the 26-year-old wing-back leaves Inter Milan only a year after moving to Serie A, just like Hakimi last summer.
