West Ham United are reportedly behind Serie A champions Inter Milan in the race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi in the summer.
According to an exclusive report from Inter Live, West Ham United are interested in signing Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi in the summer but are trailing Serie A champions Inter Milan in the race for the 22-year-old.
Frattesi started at the Lazio academy before switching to the AS Roma youth setup in 2014. The midfielder progressed through the ranks at the club and signed for Sassuolo in 2017. After loan spells at Ascoli, Empoli and Monza, he was incorporated into the first team at his parent club this season, and he has shown his quality.
Frattesi has contributed with four goals and three assists from 31 Serie A matches this season, catching the eye of several clubs in Serie A. Indeed, AC Milan, Juventus and Inter Milan have taken notice of the 22-year-old, while Borussia Dortmund are also interested. West Ham United, too, have emerged as suitors for the Italian star.
West Ham United are in the market for reinforcements in the middle of the park. Mark Noble will be retiring at the end of the season, while the Hammers will not sign Alex Kral permanently after a lacklustre loan spell. It would leave West Ham light in the midfield department with just Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek as frontline options to rely upon.
So, a new midfield signing is important for David Moyes’s side. It has led to links with several players like Geoffrey Kondogbia of Atletico Madrid and Bologna’s Mattias Svanberg. Now Sassuolo’s breakout star Davide Frattesi has also emerged as a potential transfer target for West Ham United.
However, as per the report, West Ham are behind Inter Milan in the race to sign Frattesi. The 22-year-old is keen on joining Inter Milan in the summer as he believes their project is ideal for his development. Furthermore, the Nerazzurri are also pushing to sign Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca, who is Frattesi’s close friend, and the midfielder wishes to continue playing with the Italian international.
Inter Milan, for their part, see Frattesi as a player who can offer quality cover to Nicolo Barella in the centre of the park. With Arturo Vidal, Stefano Sensi, and Matias Vecino expected to move on in the summer the Serie A giants could do with adding more options in midfield, making the Sassuolo star a target.
So, as things stand, West Ham United are likely to fail in their pursuit of David Frattesi, who is prioritising a summer transfer to Inter Milan.
