Christian Eriksen keen on rejoining Tottenham

Christian Eriksen is reportedly open to rejoining Tottenham Hotspur in the summer, and a reunion with Antonio Conte could be on the cards.

According to a report from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur have received a major boost in their pursuit of Christian Eriksen. The Brentford playmaker is staring at an uncertain future at the Community Stadium with his current contract expiring at the end of the season. Many expect Eriksen to join a bigger club amid interest from a host of English giants.

Tottenham are among the clubs keen on securing the services of Eriksen, along with league rivals Crystal Palace and Aston Villa. The Danish international, meanwhile, is open to a potential return to north London where he will be given the opportunity to reunite with former boss Antonio Conte.

Eriksen and Conte spent one and a half seasons together at Inter Milan. He initially had a dodgy start to his spell under the Italian tactician, but he eventually got used to the tactical setup. In fact, the playmaker’s performances during the 2020/21 campaign were vital in helping Inter Milan secure the Scudetto.

Eriksen was expected to achieve big things at Inter, but an unfortunate cardiac arrest during UEFA Euro 2020 marred his progress. However, the former Tottenham playmaker has recovered brilliantly, relaunching his career during the ongoing stint at Brentford.

The former Ajax starlet joined the Bees in January, on a short-term contract. And the player has not disappointed either, scoring one goal and mustering two assists in six appearances, notably starring in the famous win over Chelsea.

Eriksen’s redemption has not gone unnoticed, with former club Tottenham Hotspur prepared to re-sign him in the summer transfer window. The 30-year-old had played for the Lilywhites for six and a half years, firmly establishing himself as one of the most gifted players to have ever played for the club.

His tally of 69 goals and 90 assists in just over 300 competitive appearances for Tottenham speaks for itself. And it appears his chapter with Spurs is not over just yet, with Conte keen on a reunion with the Danish international next season.

Currently scouring the market for a new number ten following the January exit of Dele Alli, Tottenham have identified Eriksen as the ideal solution to their problem. The Brentford star has proven himself as a Premier League star in the past and could be an ideal cost-effective alternative for another top target in Nicolo Zaniolo, who is likely to cost around €60 million this summer.
