Serie A champions Inter Milan are reportedly keen on signing Miralem Pjanic and Memphis Depay from Barcelona in the summer.
According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Inter Milan manager Simone Inzaghi is an admirer of the talents of Miralem Pjanic and Memphis Depay. The Serie A champions could thus launch the offensive for the Barcelona duo in the summer transfer window.
Miralem Pjanic joined Barcelona from Juventus nearly two years ago but failed to settle down at Camp Nou in his maiden campaign. The Blaugrana sent the Bosnian out on loan to Besiktas last summer, and he has done reasonably well in Turkey, chipping in with four assists in 24 outings. But Pjanic will return to Barcelona this coming summer, with Besiktas uninterested in signing him on a permanent deal.
On the other hand, Memphis Depay joined Barcelona in a Bosman move last summer, but the Dutch international has blown hot and cold after a solid start to the campaign. The 28-year-old has a sub-par tally of 11 goals and two assists in 31 appearances. But after falling down the pecking order, Depay could leave Barcelona in the summer.
Depay is not the only Barcelona player facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou, with Pjanic deemed surplus to requirements before even returning to the Catalan club. And Inter Milan could offer the duo an escape route out of Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
The Serie A champions will invest in their attack and midfield ahead of the 2022/23 season, with former Barcelona duo Alexis Sanchez and Arturo Vidal facing uncertain futures at San Siro. Sanchez and Vidal’s departures will leave Inter Milan scouring the market for viable replacements.
Depay is thus an option worth considering to replace Sanchez, while Pjanic has the qualities to take Vidal’s place in the first-team squad. But the Barcelona players are not the only candidates on Inter Milan’s radar to bolster their attack and midfield, with the Real Madrid pair of Luka Jovic and Dani Ceballos also on their agenda.
It will be interesting to see how Inter Milan’s plans evolve as we approach the summer transfer window. For now, Depay and Pjanic have emerged on the radar of the Serie A giants, with the Barcelona duo facing uncertain futures at Camp Nou.
