La Liga heavyweights Real Madrid are interested in signing Argentine defender Juan Foyth, valued at around €20 million by La Liga rivals Villarreal.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Juan Foyth is the subject of interest from Real Madrid over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Argentine defender is valued at around €20 million by La Liga rivals Villarreal, although the Yellow Submarine could raise his asking price.
Juan Foyth has resurrected his stuttering career since joining Villarreal from Tottenham Hotspur. The La Liga outfit initially signed him on a season-long loan deal in October 2020 before completing a permanent transfer last summer. In the 18 months he has spent at Estadio de la Ceramica, the 24-year-old has come leaps and bounds.
The Argentine defender has enjoyed a solid 2021/22 campaign, establishing himself as the first-choice right-back while making 31 appearances across all competitions. Foyth’s progress at Villarreal has not gone unnoticed, with La Liga leaders Real Madrid weighing up the prospect of snapping him up in the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid could delve into the market for a right-back ahead of the 2022/23 season, as Dani Carvajal has shown signs of age catching up with him. With the experienced Spanish right-back blowing hot and cold, Carlo Ancelotti has appeared helpless at times, as he does not have any other right-back at his disposal.
While Lucas Vazquez was impressive as a makeshift right-back last season, the Spaniard has failed to produce convincing performances in the position this term. And while Alvaro Odriozola has been impressive during his loan stint with Fiorentina, the Spanish right-back could leave Real Madrid permanently in the summer.
Foyth has thus emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid, with his €20 million price tag making him an enticing option. The Argentine international’s ability to play as a centre-back further makes him a player worth considering for a move in the summer transfer window amid Real Madrid’s search for a central defender.
But the report claims that Villarreal could demand more than €20 million to part with Foyth in the summer transfer window. However, the development might not trouble Real Madrid, considering Vinicius Tobias could join them permanently heading into the 2022/23 season after arriving on loan earlier this month.
