Transfer News: Everton plotting summer move for Everton Soares

Merseyside giants Everton are reportedly eyeing a summer move for long-term transfer target Everton Soares.

According to TEAMtalk, Premier League side Everton are keen to make a summer transfer move for Benfica forward Everton Soares as he continues to make a name for himself in the Portuguese top flight.

The 26-year-old came through the ranks at Brazilian side Gremio before moving to Europe with Benfica in 2020. The decision to move to the Estadio da Luz has proven to be an inspired one so far. Soares has scored 15 goals and assisted 18 more in just 92 games across all competitions.

A left-winger, Everton is also capable of doing a job on the other flank. The ability to play several positions in attack will be a welcome boost to interested parties as the Brazilian international can be deployed as per requirement.

Everton were among several English clubs aware of the player’s ability from his time in Brazil. His performances for Benfica have done little to stem that interest. The Toffees, for their part, need to add more quality to their lineup, and signing Everton will aid in that quest.

The 26-year-old was at Merseyside this week for Benfica’s UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg against Liverpool at Anfield. The Reds came out on top, but Everton gave a fine account of himself in both legs.

Everton are currently fighting for their lives to avoid relegation and face a defining summer on their hands. This is more so, given that first-team stars Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin look set to depart Goodison Park at the end of the campaign.

Losing both players will leave Frank Lampard with a massive void in attack, which will be difficult to fill. The Toffees must bring in players of similar quality, if not more, to stay competitive. Everton certainly fits that bill, but it remains to be seen if he will be open to a move to Merseyside.

The Toffees have already scouted the Brazilian international and might be readying an offer to test Benfica’s resolve in the summer. A move to Goodison Park is admittedly a step down given where Everton are right now. Turning out for Lampard’s side will be a far cry from the European nights he enjoys at Benfica.

Everton Soares’s contract with the Portuguese giants runs until 2025, meaning they hold the aces when it comes to negotiations. Benfica look set to lose star striker Darwin Nunez in the summer, and whether they are ready to let another attacking lynchpin in Everton Soares leave at the same time remains to be seen.
