Valencia will battle La Liga rivals Real Betis in the race to sign Spanish midfielder Dani Ceballos from Real Madrid in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Dani Ceballos is the subject of interest from Valencia over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The Real Madrid midfielder is also a target for La Liga rivals Real Betis and Serie A giants AS Roma.

Dani Ceballos was once widely regarded as the most promising young midfielder in Spain, as he made a splash for Real Betis before making a switch across La Liga by joining Real Madrid in July 2017. But that is when the Spaniard’s progress plateaued, as he failed to win over Zinedine Zidane before spending two years at Arsenal.

Upon returning from Arsenal, the 25-year-old would have envisioned a bright future at Real Madrid before an untimely ankle injury put paid to his efforts. Since recovering from the long-term issue, Ceballos has been on the fringes of the Real Madrid first team, with five midfielders ahead of him in the pecking order.

As a result, the player has garnered just 84 minutes of game-time across nine appearances for Real Madrid this term. With his progress halted, Ceballos needs to leave Real Madrid to get his career back on track. And Valencia could offer the Spanish midfielder an escape route from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window.

At Valencia, Carlos Soler’s future has come under the scanner, with the Spanish international attracting interest from several high profile clubs across Europe. Even if Soler stays put at the Mestalla, signing a player like Ceballos could be the catalyst for Los Che to rise up the La Liga table after a few years of mediocrity.

But Valencia will have to fend off stiff competition from AS Roma and La Liga rivals Real Betis in the race to sign Ceballos from Real Madrid. Real Betis, in particular, could offer the greatest challenge to Valencia in pursuit of the 25-year-old, who is keen on returning to the Benito Villamarin Stadium.

Recent reports have claimed that the Real Madrid midfielder has reached an agreement with his ex-club over personal terms. So it will be interesting to see which way the pendulum swings, with Valencia joining La Liga rivals Real Betis and Serie A giants AS Roma in the race to sign Ceballos from Real Madrid.
