RC Strasbourg’s defensive stalwart Gerzino Nyamsi could leave the club in the summer, with Newcastle United and West Ham hot on his trail.
According to RMC Sport, RC Strasbourg are facing a battle to keep hold of Gerzino Nyamsi. The defender has been courted by several clubs across Europe, with many expecting him to move on after enjoying a stellar season so far. West Ham and Newcastle United are among the clubs keen on his services, as they look to snap up the centre-half in the summer.
Nyamsi has been one of the rising stars in Ligue 1 this season. Since joining from Rennes last summer, he has become an ever-present figure in the Strasbourg defence, racking up 26 league appearances.
Nyamsi has not only become a first-team regular for the Alsatian club but he has rather dominated the league defensively. Indeed, the defender has recorded a high number of duels won and tackles whilst also showcasing his ability to carry the ball forward, which is indicative of his technical prowess.
At 25, one could call Nyamsi a late bloomer, but the defender certainly has what it takes to play at a higher level. Newcastle United and West Ham are hoping to offer him the platform to do so, as they both battle it out for his services in the summer.
West Ham, in particular, have appeared desperate to sign a new centre-back in the summer as they look to add competition for Kurt Zouma and Craig Dawson. The Hammers have largely targeted the Bundesliga, with Timo Hubers among the players emerging as potential candidates for coach David Moyes.
Newcastle United, meanwhile, have set their sights on Sven Botman for quite some time now. But they are drawing up a long list of alternatives for the Dutchman, with Eddie Howe keen on shoring up his options at the back, especially amid uncertainty over the future of AC Milan target Fabian Schar.
Someone like Gerzino Nyamsi could be an interesting option for both these Premier League clubs. Standing at 1.95m, the defender has an imposing figure and is capable of thriving in the physically astute nature of English football. Given his lack of experience, he is unlikely to cost a fortune either, making him nothing less than a bargain option in the summer.
