Aston Villa reportedly have Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson on their radars and are set to scout him in the game against Fenerbahce later this week.
According to Turkish publication Fanatik, Aston Villa have their sights set on Galatasaray and Denmark defender Victor Nelsson. The Villans are set to have scouts present at the Turkish giants’ weekend clash against Fenerbahce this weekend to watch the 23-year-old in action.
Nelsson came through the ranks at FC Nordsjaelland and made close to 100 senior appearances for the club before sealing a transfer to FC Copenhagen in 2019. The defender signed for Galatasaray in the summer of last year, after two seasons with Copenhagen. He has become a mainstay at the heart of the defence.
So far, Nelsson has featured in 42 matches across all competitions for the Turkish giants, scoring and assisting one goal apiece. The centre-back also has four appearances for the Denmark national team. His performances for Galatasaray have seemingly attracted him admirers in Aston Villa, who will be watching him in action this weekend against Fenerbahce.
Aston Villa are in the market for defensive reinforcements heading into the summer window as question marks hang over the future of Ezri Konsa. The former Charlton Athletic ace is attracting interest from Premier League bigwigs Arsenal. At the same time, Tyrone Mings has endured a drop off in form, which has forced manager Steven Gerrard to look for reinforcements.
Calum Chambers arrived in the January transfer window and has shown glimpses of quality. But the Villans still lack enough depth in the centre-back department and could be further depleted if Konsa ends up leaving.
So, bringing in a new centre-half becomes a priority for the Midlands club, and Nelsson has now emerged as a potential target. The 23-year-old, who arrived at Galatasaray in a €7 million deal, has a contract that runs until 2026. So, it is unlikely that he will come cheap in the summer transfer window, especially with there being interest from AC Milan and Fiorentina.
So, it remains to be seen if Aston Villa press ahead with their pursuit of Nelsson or decide to look elsewhere, with Liverpool star Joe Gomez also believed to be a key target for Steven Gerrard.
