Real Madrid are reportedly set to face competition from Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso in the summer.
According to Calciomercato, Real Madrid are set to battle it out with Ligue 1 heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain for the signing of French midfielder Corentin Tolisso on a free transfer in the summer.
Tolisso has been with Bayern Munich since 2017 when he joined from his boyhood club, Olympique Lyon. While the Frenchman has shown glimpses of his quality now and then, his spell in Bavaria has been bogged down by endless injury issues, which has restricted him to just 117 appearances in nearly five years for Die Roten.
Tolisso is in the final few months of his contract with the German champions, and with a renewal not in sight, he looks poised to leave the Allianz Arena on a Bosman move come summer. And Real Madrid are one of the clubs showing keen interest in the 27-year-old midfielder.
Real Madrid are on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park as they look to lay down a succession plan for the future, with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos well into their thirties. Furthermore, Dani Ceballos and Isco are expected to depart from the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of the season, which would create vacancies in the midfield department.
To that end, Real Madrid have been linked with a host of central midfielders ranging from Fabian Ruiz to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. But considering that they are planning to sign Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland in the same window, they are looking at a cost-effective solution like Tolisso, who would arrive on a free transfer and is unlikely to command high wages.
However, Real Madrid will now face competition from Paris Saint-Germain, who are interested in taking Tolisso back to his homeland this summer. The Parisian giants are set for a revamp in the middle of the park with the likes of Ander Herrera, Idrissa Gueye and last summer’s flop signing Georginio Wijnaldum expected to move on at the end of the season.
In addition, there are question marks over the future of Leandro Paredes, who is attracting interest from Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur. So, there will likely be plenty of vacancies in the middle of the park at Parc des Princes which PSG intend to fill in the summer with the potential signings of Paul Pogba, for whom they have already made an offer, and now Tolisso.
Apart from Real Madrid and PSG, Tolisso’s former club Olympique Lyon are also interested in the 27-year-old, as he will be available on a Bosman deal. It remains to be seen where the French international ends up come summer.
