Kylian Mbappe likely to sign new PSG contract

In what could be a devastating blow for Real Madrid, top transfer target Kylian Mbappe is reportedly likely to sign a new contract with PSG.

According to RMC Sport journalist Daniel Riolo, PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe is ready to snub Real Madrid in favour of a stay at current club Paris Saint-Germain and will make an announcement on the matter next month.

Mbappe has been with PSG since 2017, when he arrived from Ligue 1 rivals, AS Monaco. Signed on loan initially, the Frenchman’s transfer was made permanent in 2018. He has enjoyed tremendous success in his five-year stint with Les Parisiens winning a host of titles and trophies while firmly establishing himself as one of the best young forwards in the game.

However, Mbappe’s future at PSG has been a topic of intense speculation since last summer, when he entered the final year of his contract with the club. Real Madrid have been long-term admirers of the 23-year-old, making serious efforts to sign him, only for PSG to knock back their offers.

But with Mbappe yet to sign an extension with the Ligue 1 leaders, it looked like he was primed to join Real Madrid on a Bosman deal this summer. Indeed, reports indicated that the 2018 FIFA World Cup winner had already reached a pre-contract agreement with the Merengues, and a deal was imminent.

Mbappe’s international teammate and ace Real Madrid goalscorer Karim Benzema has also been teasing the possibility of the former’s move to Real Madrid. However, in what could be a major U-turn, the 23-year-old could end up signing a new contract with PSG and staying put in France beyond the current season.

As reported by Daniel Riolo, Mbappe has decided to put pen to paper on a new deal and prolong his stay at Parc des Princes. The journalist adds that the 23-year-old plans to announce the same once the Ligue 1 season is over in May.

If true, this development is set to come as a major blow for Real Madrid. The Spanish heavyweights have poured in a lot of efforts to bring Mbappe to the Santiago Bernabeu and looked well-positioned to clinch his signing on a Bosman deal. But if the French international decides to sign a new contract as is being reported, Los Blancos will need to step up their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund hotshot Erling Haaland.
