Inter Milan are reportedly vying for Donny van de Beek as they eye the Manchester United struggler as an alternative to Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
According to Fichajes, Inter Milan have set their sights on Donny van de Beek as the Dutchman continues to endure a frustrating time in the Premier League. The Nerazzurri consider the Manchester United midfielder as a cheaper alternative to prime target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
Inter Milan are in the thick of the Serie A title race, and their fans would want the club to focus on those efforts rather than off-field matters. However, the Italian champions are already planning to strengthen the first team ahead of the 2022/23 season, with many key moves lined up for the summer window.
While they are keen on signing a forward, signing a midfielder with attacking instincts is also necessary. Inter have been tracking a few names in the last few weeks, but the right player will depend on his talents and affordability in the market.
Conor Gallagher has been mentioned as a target, among other players, although the Chelsea loanee may not be leaving the Blues just yet. The Serie A giants will, nonetheless, make an approach if the opportunity arises, although they will want to keep alternate targets at an arm’s length if they switch their attention.
Real Madrid’s Dani Ceballos is also a target, although Inter’s priority is Lazio’s midfield general Sergej Milinkovic-Savic. But the Serb is proving to be a costly affair, as per recent reports. The Serie A outfit are willing to sanction a sale if suitors shell out the asking price.
Manchester United are linked with a €60 million move, although Lazio might look closer to €80 million for their star midfielder. That range is beyond what Inter can afford; hence, they are searching for a cheaper alternative and may have stumbled upon Donny van de Beek.
The Dutchman has endured a difficult time in the Premier League since joining Manchester United. Without making the necessary impact, van de Beek was left frustrated as the Red Devils seemingly left him on the bench for the most part. He got a move away on loan to Everton but has struggled at Goodison Park.
He could return to Manchester United disappointed with his performances at Everton, and the club might look to offload him in the summer. Inter Milan are expected to express their intent to bring the Dutchman to San Siro, although they will have to wait to find out the financial elements to get a deal done.
Manchester United will look to recoup most of the money they paid to sign him from Ajax, although van de Beek’s depreciated value might play in Inter’s favour. It is shaping to be an interesting summer, and van de Beek might need to find a fresh breath of air and play with more freedom than the pressure at his next club, which has not been the case at Manchester United or Everton.
