Karim Adeyemi back on Barcelona, Real Madrid radars

Barcelona and Real Madrid are reportedly keeping tabs on the situation of Karim Adeyemi, whose move to Borussia Dortmund has encountered complications.

According to SPORT, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been alerted by the developments surrounding the situation of Karim Adeyemi, whose transfer to Borussia Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg has hit some roadblocks.

Adeyemi is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young talents in Europe. The 20-year-old enjoyed a fine 2021 when he helped Germany win the Under-21 European Championship and broke into the first-team squad for Die Mannschaft while also racking up impressive numbers at the club level for Salzburg.

Adeyemi has 19 goals in 36 matches for the Austrian giants this season, while he also has netted once in three appearances for the German national team. His growth over the past 15 months or so has led to serious interest from top clubs in Europe, with Barcelona and Real Madrid listed among his suitors.

However, for a while, it had seemed like Adeyemi was bound to join German giants Borussia Dortmund as a replacement for Erling Haaland, who is expected to leave in the summer. It had led to the likes of Barcelona ending their pursuit of the 20-year-old ace and looking at other options to strengthen their ranks.

But recent reports in Germany have claimed that Adeyemi’s move to Dortmund has hit a snag, and Salzburg have issued an ultimatum for the Bundesliga outfit to submit a concrete offer and finalise the deal before Easter or miss out on the transfer altogether. This development has seemingly alerted both Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are closely watching the situation with renewed hopes of signing the youngster.

Barcelona are in the market for a new centre-forward and have been chasing Dortmund’s Haaland for a long time. However, with the Norwegian likely to end up at Manchester City, they have been forced to look at alternatives in the market. Moves for superstars such as Robert Lewandowski and Mohamed Salah have been mooted, but they will come with their own financial challenges.

So, signing someone like Adeyemi could be a more feasible operation for Barcelona. As for Real Madrid, they are also on the hunt for Haaland but could lose out to Manchester City in his pursuit. With Karim Benzema set to enter the twilight years of his career, signing a young, prolific goalscorer who can take over from him in due course makes sense for Los Blancos, making Adeyemi a viable target.

With a move to Dortmund now getting complicated, both Barcelona and Real Madrid are closely monitoring Adeyemi, intending to swoop in if an opportunity presents itself. But, as things stand, the German giants still have an edge in the race for the 20-year-old and could clinch his signing in the coming weeks.
